All I wanted to do was to pare away, to pare away and to pare away until I reached the pure essence of a simple, useful object!”.

Lluis Porqueras,  designer of the Funiculí

Joan Gaspar, creative director at Marset, interviews Lluis Porqueras in this inspiring video above, talking to him about where the inspiration for the Funiculí came from and the methodology used to arrive at this great piece of modern lighting.

In short, the Funiculí is nothing short of perfect.

After 30 years, its simplistic perfection retains its relevance in contemporary design and its re-edition through Marset pays homage to its creator, the inventor and problem solver, Lluis Porqueras. Porqueras was born in a time when things were still made with the intention to last and this has made all the difference. In seeking absolute simplicity in his designs, he has attained timelessness, eschewing the planned obsolescence expected of most products made today. As Marset writes of the Funiculí, “Funiculí remains highly contemporary, both in its purist forms and in its features.” Available in a classic colourway of black, white, beige, red and moss, this thing was designed to be an heirloom.
